Minneapolis Community Mourns 10-Year-Old Harper Moyski, Tragically Killed in Church Shooting

Harper Moyski Memorial: The mother of a 10-year-old girl who was slain in a mass shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic church recalled Sunday as a humorous, inquisitive, and strong youngster who “didn’t water herself down.”To commemorate Harper Moyski’s life, friends, relatives, and others gathered in an outdoor amphitheater beside a lake. Additionally, speakers urged everyone to commit to creating a less violent society in the United States.

The August 27 shooting claimed the lives of Harper and another Annunciation Catholic School kid, 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel, and wounded 21 others.

According to authorities, during a Mass, Robin Westman, a 23-year-old former student, fired over 100 shots into the church’s windows while brandishing a rifle, handgun, and shotgun. Westman was discovered dead from what seemed to be a self-shot wound.

When the family felt as if they had been plunged at the bottom of an ocean “where it’s pitch black and the pressure is crushing,” Harper’s mother, Jackie Flavin, told the mourners that their support had lifted them. Harper, who aspired to become a veterinarian and adored dogs, taught them “how to be a light in the dark,” according to her.

She had a unique perspective, sense of fashion, and personality. She acted without waiting for approval. Flavin said, “She didn’t water herself down.” “And she truly taught us to be authentically ourselves.”

Harper was also described by Flavin as “extra in the very best way.”

She said, “Harper didn’t do anything halfway.” “Always going for the extra scoop, always selecting the premium versions.” Charlie Kirk, a conservative leader and activist, was shot dead while giving a speech at Utah Valley University only four days before to the Minneapolis event. Speakers at the memorial service for Harper conveyed their annoyance and indignation at the continued prevalence of gun violence, especially school shootings.

Rabbi Jason Rodich, another member of the extended family, advised people to stay away from “the scorched earth of these times” and the animosity of social media. He responded, “Turn a little to the warm soul next to you.” For Harper’s sake, do it. Do it for you.
